| Addison Scurlock (1883-1964) was a top
photographer of his time with a studio on the corner of Ninth and U
Streets, and a reputation for being the photographer of the black
"elite". His sons took over the business in the mid-1900s,
and after his son Robert died in 1994, the Smithsonian purchased the
family's collection of nearly a century of photographs and portraits. |
